I’m trying to find a book publishing company that doesn’t require you paying up front. Any ideas?
I’ve written a book and am trying to get it published. I was informed to find a publishing company that does NOT require you to pay them up front. I’ve been looking for one such company and have found none. Does anyone have any ideas?
Right, no legitimate publisher will ask you to pay. The publisher pays you.
There are very specific exceptions to this rule… if you want a book published that has no money making potential, and the scope of buyers is limited to your immediate family for example. Such as if you publish your family history, and you want books printed. Nobody outside your family will be interested. You will have to pay someone to do the printing. You essentially buy the entire run of the book in advance, paying all costs and expenses for the printing. You would have to find a boutique publisher that routinely engages in this type of business in order to get your book printed.
In a normal publishing relationship, the publisher agrees to publish and sell your book in return for a share of the profits. They send you money periodically as profits are recognized. If you can’t enter into this type of relationship with a publisher, it is because they don’t see any profit in taking on your book. You will have better luck convincing the publisher that you will make money for them if you have an agent. Most legit publishers won’t even speak to you without an agent.

No legitimate publisher would ask you to pay. They pay you. You need to find a literary agent first.

You could self-publish your work. A friend of mine writes poetry and published his book this way and he was happy with the results. Good luck!

C0ld, go to a bookstore, the largest in your area. Find the shelves where they sell books the same genre as the one you wrote. Jot down the publishers’ names. Those are the ones which don’t make the author pay up front, usually called vanity publication. (It’s legitimate for poetry and niche non-fiction.)
Many of those publishers do not deal directly with the author but use literary agents to screen material for quality. If you also jot down titles and authors, you can get online and find out which agents represent who, usually.

Go into a bookshop. Look at the name of the publisher on the book. It will appear on the spine in small letters and inside.
I can guarantee you that any publisher that is publishing books found in bookstores will not be charging people any money up front. No legitimate publisher asks you for money. What they do ask you for is a manuscript that’s actually good enough to publish and sell, and they will reject it if it isn’t. There are literally thousands of those publishers, and I find it hard to believe that you’ve been looking very hard if you couldn’t find out the name of a single legitimate publisher.
A publisher that asks you for money is known as a self-publishing or vanity publishing firm. They will print any book, however terrible, if you are prepared to pay for it. However, you won’t be able to sell that book in bookstores, and you will not sell many, if any, copies.
Go to your local library / bookstore and ask them if they have any books on how to write / publish a book. There will be plenty available. Then read them. You are clearly really confused about how the publishing industry works and you need to do your research before you proceed any further.
Also, most publishers won’t deal directly with authors. You’d be better off seeking an agent at this stage.

No publisher will ask for money up front; if they do then get away from the deal as it will be a scam.
